When should I book my MOT?
You can have your car tested up to one calendar month minus a day before the current certificate expires and keep the same renewal date. That gives you time for any repairs without losing part of the year.
Can I drive my car if the MOT has run out?
Only to a pre-booked MOT appointment or to a garage for repairs. Otherwise driving without a valid MOT risks a fine of up to £1,000 and can invalidate your insurance.
What is the difference between an MOT and a service?
An MOT is a legal roadworthiness test — it checks the car meets minimum safety and emissions standards on the day. A service is preventative maintenance: oil, filters, and the wear items that keep the car reliable. Many people book both together.
